peregrine falcon in Prague

After a period of almost complete disappearance starting mid-nineties, peregrine falcon slowly returns back to the Czech Republic. One of the first sites where this recolonization took place was Prague with a series of well-known nests in Old Town. Unfortunately, continuity of Old Town couples was soon broken by injuries and nest site destruction. For another decade peregrines were not finding suitable nesting conditions in Prague. The mission of this project is to help peregrine falcons to return back to Prague as permanently breeding species. First successful nesting after ten-year interruption was achieved in 2013 in the nestbox previously installed by us! In 2014 another nestbox was occupied by a second peregrine couple and more good news followed in the coming years. The breeding continuity in Prague was successfully restored. We will use this website to spread the news on this project.
